4 Week Course: Discover Italy (Oxford)
Join us as we journey through the wine regions of Italy. Discover what makes Italy the most fascinating wine producing nation in the world! Taste delicious Dolcetto, velvety Valpolicella, charming Chianti among many others. Explore regions such as Piedmont, Veneto, Tuscany, Umbria, Lombardia, Puglia, Trentino, and Sicily. Four whole weeks dedicated to Italy enabling us to unravel the mysteries and delights of Italian wine.
We will taste some of the myriad indigenous grapes that make Italian wine so different and intriguing including - Nebbiolo (Barolo), Sangiovese (Chianti), Corvina (Valpolicella), and Barbera. Italy can be the most confusing wine country to get to know, with its enormous diversity of wine styles, often from the same town! It is, however, worth spending time to understand it, with the discoveries amply repaying the effort involved. We will wander through the north of the country, from the North West (Piedmont) to the North East (Veneto), through Tuscany and the Marches to the warm south (Puglia, Campania, Basilicata & Sicily). You will experience, first hand, the amazing range of grape varieties and flavours that Italy has to offer. You will taste some classic Italian wines, along with some new-wave wines from really cutting-edge winemakers.
The course finishes with a special evening devoted to Italian Food and Wine pairing: no other country offers the extraordinary range of wonderful food ingredients with high-quality wines. Find out what pairs best with everything from premium Italian fizz to the unique red dessert wine called Recioto.
